Aquatiris Reed Beds
The Aquatiris reed bed system consists of 2 filters - a vertical filter which is divided into 2 and a horizontal filter. The vertical filter receives all the effluent from the house (WC and grey water) and the flow is switched between the 2 halves on a weekly basis. (A simple task of lifting a small sluice gate and placing it into the opposite side of a Y branch in the pipework) This filter is planted with some 60 reeds which establish a dense root system. The roots release oxygen which support bacteria which in turn work on and treat the arriving effluent.
Once the effluent has passed through this primary filter it runs into a polishing horizontal bed which is planted with a series of Iris and other plants which work on the effluent further reducing levels of Biological Oxygen Demand “BOD” and Suspended Solids.
The system delivers an Effective treatment solution in an Ecological manner which looks good and doesn't cost the earth.
